Adventure Therapy

Adventure Therapy

Momenta draws on our extensive experience providing successful therapeutic adventure experiences for children, youth, families and groups in Winnipeg and communities across Manitoba since 2006.

Our goal is to help discover strengths and confidence through therapeutic conversations and activities.

Our team is intentional in the facilitation of process, the selection and design of the intervention, and about the role of the environment. We use natural settings to enhance the therapeutic experience. We use adventure sports and activities which could include hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing or paddling.

Narrative Walks

Narrative Walks are therapeutic group walks that take place in a forest. We will journey through and with nature, on foot, and each with a problem unique to us. There are narrative therapy questions posed along the trail that will invite us to consider different perspectives of a problem story in our lives – and the questions also ask us to reflect on preferred stories and paths we want to take up in life. You can find a more detailed description here. If you have any questions please contact Lise.

The first walk of the season is planned for Saturday, June 6th, 2020 at Bird’s Hill Park!  Registration opens April 1, 2020.

For Individuals: Adventure Mentors

Adventure Mentors provide individual support by connecting with youth using an adventure and strengths based approach.

Youth are matched with a team of two Momenta staff, one from our program team and one from our clinical team. Activities are based on the interest of the youth, and the desired therapeutic outcomes. Typically sessions are 3 hours in length and can take place in public natural spaces in Winnipeg and surrounding areas.

We welcome applications from youth who are willing to participate, who like being outdoors and who are ready for a new challenge. Sibling groups are welcome to apply.

The fee for Adventure Mentors is $250 + GST/session.

Intake is ongoing. Start anytime!

Wednesdays in the Woods

Momenta’s adventure therapy group is designed for youth aged 10 to 14 who are experiencing challenges in their traditional classroom and/or home environment. Our team connects with youth using an adventure and strengths based approach with the goal of solving problems, identifying barriers and creating successful connection back to the school and/or home environment.

Wednesdays in the Woods is a weekly group where youth connect with the land, positive role models and peers to overcome challenges and increase feelings of success. The group is led by two Momenta staff from our clinical and program team.

The group is designed to incorporate our core values, themes from the participants’ daily lives and defined therapeutic goals and aspirations. This includes, but is not limited to: leadership development, character building, positive peer relationships, pro-social skills and coping strategies.

We welcome applications from youth who are willing to participate in a group with a 3:1 youth to staff ratio, who like being outdoors and who are ready for a new challenge.

The fee for Wednesday in the Woods is $200 + GST/week.

The session runs from the first week in April to the last week in June each Wednesday from 10:00 to 3:00. Participants must commit for the full session.
