Leading with Intention

Research shows that the quality of human relationships in youth programming can be more influential than the program itself. At this workshop we will present the main aspects of Momenta’s engagement strategy developed with hard to reach youth in mind. Participants will learn proven methods to engage with children and youth to affect change in individuals, programs and communities.

Mentorship & Experiential Learning

This 3-hour workshop explores the themes of mentorship and experiential learning as they relate to youth work. What does it mean to be a mentor? How can mentors be most impactful? This workshop looks at how can we apply best-practice research in mentorship and experiential learning to the time we spend with youth. Through group discussion and hands-on activities, the workshop introduces experiential learning as a way of promoting positive youth development, and challenges participants to reflect on qualities they would like to strengthen and develop in themselves as mentors.

Strengths-Based Behaviour Management

This workshop will focus on strengths based behaviour management and the benefits of such a model, as well as clearly defining problem behaviour and why it occurs. Finally, participants will learn proven implementation strategies and components of the Momenta approach to client centred behaviour management.

Strengths-Based Interventions

Calling all educators, facilitators, therapists and mentors: This workshop presents a strengths-based approach to interventions with youth, including group facilitation, behaviour management and individual mentorship. The focus of the workshop is how to optimize the time we spend and the relationships we build with youth, be it through work with individuals, groups, families or communities. The workshop format includes a presentation of theoretical knowledge, experiential activities to deepen learning on key points, time for co-created discussion, and opportunity for self-reflection. Attendees can expect to learn the benefits of a strengths-based approach and tips for implementing this approach in their work. Attendees will be given opportunities to hone their active listening skills, explore their own strengths, and make meaningful connections between workshop content and their own practice or field of study.

Leadership and Social Position

Topics will include social position, self-awareness, personal beliefs and how they affect leadership. These topics will be explored using experiential activities and art. Knowledge and sharing about leadership for social justice will be directed by the group as issues of social position are explored.

Conflict Resolution for School Aged Children

Join Momenta for an interactive activity-based workshop focused on managing conflicts with school aged children. This workshop will look at how to identify conflict, when to intervene and proven strengths based strategies that resolve current conflict and work to prevent future conflict.

Restorative Justice

In the restorative justice workshop participants will learn about the history, benefits, uses and possible outcomes of restorative justice circles. Participants should be prepared to participate in circles and practice facilitation. Participants will leave with a beginners knowledge of circle facilitation.

Games Leader

Join us for an action packed session. Learn how to plan and run a fun, safe and engaging games session for any age group. This workshop includes many new activities that need few supplies. A written description of activities taught will be provided.

Bullying/Positive Peer Relationships

This 3-hour workshop addresses bullying prevention and intervention in the context of recreation programs for children and youth. Incorporating a theoretical framework, group discussions and scenario-based activities, the workshop aims to build skills and confidence in recreation staff to prevent and respond effectively to bullying between the children and youth they work with. Topics covered include how to set children up for success in a recreational setting, how to manage bullying behaviours as they arise, and how to follow up once bullying has occurred. Participants will be encouraged to draw connections between workshop content and its application to their professional context.

Let Curiosity Lead: A Forest School perspective

An exploration into sharing the role of leader with the children and young people you work with. This experiential workshop is for individuals interested in inquiry and land based learning, child led play, and spending more time outdoors in natural spaces using Forest School philosophy. Participants should be prepared to be outdoors for the session regardless of the weather.

Creating Group Cohesion

Team building workshops are designed to create group cohesion, develop problem solving skills and create an environment of open communication. This workshop is designed for groups of people who spend time together in programs, at work, or in their community and have a team goal that they would like to work towards.

Experiential Learning Facilitating and Reflection

Join us in this activity based workshop where we look at the benefits of experiential learning for youth programs, explore ways to implement experiential learning in youth programming, and learn a model for facilitation so group goals can be achieved within programs and transferred to young people’s everyday lives.

Program Planning

Learn about the latest research and tools to develop youth programming that meets current best practices. Topics will include supervision, structure, program planning, delivery and evaluation.

Strategic Planning

In this series of workshops we will create a vision, mission statement, complete a SWOT analysis and action plan to develop new programs or refresh and update current ones.
