About

Our Story

Two Decades of Impact and Growth

Founded in 2006, Momenta was created with a clear mission: to create experiences that discover strengths and foster growth through accessible, year-round outdoor programming. As a local business we uphold rigorous standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency in everything we do.

Our unique approach is deeply informed by current, best-practice research across youth development, social work, adventure therapy, and experiential education. This ensures our programs are not only safe and engaging but also profoundly meaningful and appropriately challenging for every client. At Momenta, we weave a strengths-based perspective, our core values, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, and radical acceptance into every aspect of our work.

Our Values

We teach to and lead by our values.

Adding to Momenta’s commitment to inclusive practices, co-founder Lise has been recognized for her impactful contributions. Her insights are featured in the “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Field Guide” (2022), a testament to her leadership in fostering accessible and equitable experiential learning.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Field Guide: Stories of Lived Experiences, Edited by Rita Yerkes, Denise Mitten, Karen Warren, Association for Experiential Education (2022).

The field guide was envisioned by Dr. Nina Roberts and Sky Gray as a tool that leaders could use in the field, classroom, or boardroom. It is a conversation starter, a source of inspiration, and a call to action. Readers are challenged to dig deep, engage, and listen to the voices with open hearts and minds to make personal and systemic program changes. In addition to personal reflections, the guide contains a glossary of terms and social justice quotes to help spark discussion, reflection, and action.

They were the first stewards who learned, grew, played, and nourished these very grounds here on
Mikinaak Minising. The colonization of Mikinaak Minising swept the land of Indigenous knowledge. ….”
